In the Press: Uncontested Mizzi wins election for Labour deputy leadership

Energy minister Konrad Mizzi was elected deputy leader of the Labour party, winning 96.5% of the vote in which he was the only candidate. PM Joseph Muscat defended Mizzi's recently revelead private financial activities, saying they had been included in Mizzi's draft declaration of assets.

The Opposition has demanded that minister Konrad Mizzi come clean about when his private trust fund - set up in New Zealand and that then acquired a company in Panama - had been formed.

PN leader Simon Busutti and Peter Fenech, the lawyer for the Nationalist party, are both majority shareholders in two trust companies, this newspaper reports.

Toni Abela, who was nominated for candidacy to the European Court of Auditors by PM Joseph Muscat, said he would feel obliged to withdraw if the European Parliament pronounced an unfavourable opinion on his appointment.
