‘Muscat’s decision to retain Mizzi, Schembri a blow to Malta’s dignity’ – Busuttil

Opposition leader accuses Prime Minister of setting 'the worst possible example' for Maltese workers in keeping Konrad Mizzi and Keith Schembri as minister and chief of staff

Opposition leader Simon Busuttil again lashed out at Prime Minister Joseph Muscat for choosing to retain Konrad Mizzi and Keith Schembri as a minister and chief of staff, in spite of their ownership of offshore Panama companies.

He told a PN conference on workers’ rights that Muscat’s decision will be a hammer-blow to the public’s dignity.

“Strip a person off his dignity and you leave him with nothing,” Busuttil said. “Instead of firing Schembri and Mizzi, Muscat declared his trust in them. Muscat, Mizzi and Schembri have set the worst possible example to Maltese and Gozitan workers.”

He said that the economy should serve the people and warned that the take-home pay of around 78,000 workers has decreased in the past three years.

“The difference between the PN and the PL is clear; while the PL wants a strong economy, the PN wants an economy that serves the people.”
