Cardona, Zrinzo Azzopardi submit PL deputy leadership nominations
Economy minister Chris Cardona, former PL president Stefan Zrinzo Azzopardi first to officially submit applications for vacant PL deputy leadership post

Economy minister Chris Cardona and former PL president Stefan Zrinzo Azzopardi have formally submitted their nominations for the vacant post of PL deputy leader for party affairs.
PL executive member Guza Cassar proposed both candidates, with veteran Labour MP Joe Debono Grech seconding Cardona’s nomination and Michael Buttigieg seconding Zrinzo Azzopardi’s.
The nominations close tomorrow; justice minister Owen Bonnici has already confirmed that he will be running for the deputy leadership – that has been vacated by minister Konrad Mizzi following revelations of his offshore interests.
The first phase of the internal election will take place between 9 and 10 June, and candidates must achieve 50% of the quota established in the election.
A run-off will be held a day later if nobody is elected in the first round.
