BirdLife Europe's director Angelo Caserta has said that the European Comission can still open infringement procedures against Malta for potentially breaching EU law for permitting hunters to gun down 5,000 turtle doves, a vulnerable species, over this year's spring hunting season, even if the government imposes a moratorium on the practice.

Information tabled in parliament shows that 81% of those buying Maltese passports have signed five-year rent contracts of around €21,000 a year. This indicates a preference for renting property on the island over purchasing it.

Former Super One chairman Alfred Mifsud will be made Central Bank Governor by the end of June after the job will be vacated by former PN minister Josef Bonnici. He will be the tenth governor of the Central Bank and the third since Malta joined the EU and adopted the single currency.
