In the Press: Air Malta meeting does not allay workers' concerns

The newspaper reports that a meeting held yesterday in the wake of the memorandum of understanding in the presence of tourism minister Edward Zammit Lewis, where a presentation by Air Malta’s top management was given, did little to allay workers’ concerns about their future.

After objections from Sovrantendenza ghall-Wirt Kulturali over the applications to set a monument dedicated to Glormu Cassar and Francesco Laparelli in front of the Co-Cathedral in Valletta, a new site has been proposed in Triq l-Oridnanza behind the parliament building.

The newspaper reports that PN has tabled a proposal whereby ODZs will be safeguarded and will only be allowed to be built in exceptional cases. Furthermore, even in exceptional cases, permits are not guaranteed. The proposal states that approval for development is granted by a two thirds majority in a vote in parliament, thus ensuring accountability and transparency.

According to reliable sources within the Labour party, economy minister Chris Cardona is clearly in the lead among party delegates, the newspaper reports. Cardona is going against justice minister Owen Bonnici for the deputy leader position, for which the ballots will be cast today.
