German Chancellor Merkel in Malta 10-11 January

The Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany Angela Merkel, will pay an official visit to Malta between 10 Monday and 11 Tuesday January, 2011.

Government announced that, during her visit, the German Chancellor will pay a courtesy call on The President of Malta.

Merkel will have official talks with the Prime Minister, followed by a joint press conference at Auberge de Castille. The German Chancellor will also have a courtesy call by the Leader of the Opposition.

Merkel will also be paying a private visit to St. John’s Co-Cathedral.

Merkel will also be awarded an honorary degree of Doctor of Science by the University of Malta - decided during a university senate meeting in December.

"Regrettably due to the numerous engagements that had to be scheduled during her visit to Malta, it was not possible to include a graduation ceremony on this occasion," a university spokesperson said. "We are liaising with the Chancellor’s Office regarding a future date."
