Daphne Caruana Galizia’s sister, Corinne Vella, has rejected an apology from Opposition leader Adrian Delia, over an outburst in which he referred to Caruana Galizia as a “bicca blogger” (insignificant blogger) during his leadership election campaign a few months ago.

“I was at fault because I let my anger run away with me and it is something I will regret my whole life,” a reportedly anxious-looking Delia told the Sunday Times of Malta.

Delia said he had been hurt by stories published by Caruana Galizia, in which he said she referred to him as drug dealer.

“I am not a drug dealer, and my friends and family know it. I was never involved in prostitution, ever. I disdain the degradation of people, and that’s a fundamental value for me,” he said, while insisting that his apology did not mean that what had been written about him by Caruana Galizia was true.

Writing on Facebook this morning Vella pointed out that her sister had never said Delia was a drug dealer or that he was involved in prostitution, while calling on the Opposition leader not to “exploit her in death”.

“[She] never said you are a drug dealer…She reported on your shady connections,” said Vella. “She did not say you are in involved in prostitution. She reported that you laundered money for a prostitution racket involving trafficked women and seedy basements in London’s Soho.

“If you truly regretted your words and actions against her, you would not have said or taken them in the first place. You denigrated Daphne in her lifetime. Do not exploit her in death.”
