A foreign woman married to a Maltese admitted under police interrogation to having taken the passport of a Philippine man living in Malta and had used it to blackmail him into paying her to give it back.

The police were informed of the case by Identity Malta officials who, while processing an application for a residence permit, noticed that the Philippine man’s permit had expired.

When confronted, the man admitted that a foreign woman, married to a Maltese man, had taken his passport and was asking for money to return.

The officials immediately called in the police who managed to trace the woman and call her for questioning.

The woman confirmed the man’s story and admitted to having taken his passport and asked him for money.

Two persons are to be arraigned in court in the coming days. Neither of them are associated with Identity Malta.
