Pieta gets Police Station near Detox Centre

Pieta’ Local Council has expressed satisfaction at Mepa’s approval to have a Police Station in St. Luke’s Square, describing it as “indispensable” near the Detox Centre.

In a statement, Pieta’ Mayor Malcolm Mifsud stressed that his council is satisfied that it obtained the green light from MEPA to open a new police in St.Luke’s Square.

“This was only possible after various consultations between the stakeholders, namely the Ministry for Justice, the Commissioner of Police and the health authorities.”

The mayor explained that following these discussions, an agreement was reached to change the former guard room within the precincts of St.Luke’s Hospital to a Police Station.

“The siting of the Police Station near the Detox Centre is indispensable as the presence of the police force would deter persons loitering in the vicinity without any reason whatsoever.  In this way the area around St.Luke’s Hospital would be more secure for the residents,” Mifsud said.

He added that the Pieta’ Council will resume discussions with the Police in a bid to commence on the refurbishment.
