Coleiro-Preca accuses government of 'hypocrisy' over opposition to Tal-Blat overpass
Labour have accused the government of hypocrisy after rejecting a parliamentary motion for the construction of an overpass across Mriehel bypass to improve safe access to Qormi for the Tal-Blat housing estate residents.
Shadow health minister Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca said all Nationalist MPs, including those elected from the sixth district, had voted against the Labour motion. “The security of these families should have been considered when the road was being constructed. This government’s priorities make no sense at all.”
Transport Minister Austin Gatt had told Parliament back in January that rather than building an overpass across Mrieħel bypass, what was needed to improve safe access to Qormi for residents of Tal-Blat housing estate was to improve the area of Mill Street. Gatt said none of the MPs were traffic experts and the worst thing they could do was to impose solutions.
The motion was defeated by an odd vote in 69 after a division.
