Sanctuaries and animal welfare NGOs will be able to benefit from a free veterinary services run by the government, Parliamentary secretary for animal rights Clint Camilleri said on Thursday.

Camilleri was speaking at the launch of the service, where he explained that up to €80,000 would be allocated to the services’ operation.

The parliamentary secretary said that Malta currently had 11 NGOs caring for animals including 245 dogs, 829 cats and 23 horses.

Camilleri said that NGO would be given €40 for every cat or dog and €160 for every horse, and that sanctuaries would benefit from the full amount without having to pay any extra expenses.
