PN approves first group of candidates to contest MEP election

Four new names make the list of first seven candidates approved by PN to contest the elections of the European Parliament in May 2019

The Nationalist Party approved a first round of seven candidates who will contest the European elections in May 2019.

The candidates include incumbents Roberta Metsola, David Casa, and Francis Zammit Dimech, as well as newcomers Peter Agius, Dione Borg, Michael Briguglio, and Frank Psaila.

Agius is a lawyer who graduated in European law from the University of Brussels. He presently works as a political advisor and speechwriter for European Parliament president Antonio Tajani. 

Borg studied journalism at the University of Malta and has been a practising journalist with Media.Link for 25 years. He has produced many diverse and investigative programmes on television and programmes on our cultural and historical heritage.

Briguglio is a sociologist and lecturer at the University of Malta. The former Alternattiva Demokratika chairperson is today a PN councillor on the Sliema local council. He is a member of the European Association of Sociology and has been involved since 1994 in numerous civil society organisations.

Casa is the current leader for the PN delegation at the European Parliament and has been serving this tenure since 2004. He is the co-founder of the IVA movement and was directly involved with the MAlta's ascension into the EU.

Metsola is a lawyer who specified in European law and politics at the University of Malta and the European College in Bruges. She served as permanent representative of Malta for the EU and won the MEP of the year for Justice and Internal Affairs in 2015 and in 2016 and she was chosen as one of Europe's ten young leaders across the EU in 2017.

Psaila has obtained a Doctorate in law and a Master's in English. He has been active in the PN media for these past 15 years.

Zammit Dimech is a lawyer who served as minister for tourism, transport and infrastructure minister, cultural minister and in other sectors. He has been working for the PN since 1980. Graduated as a lawyer and specified in management and financial services.
