Parliament resumes | Prior to 2019 Budget, 11 new bills up for discussion

Parliament will reconvene after the summer hiatus on 1 October with several varied legislative proposals on the agenda

The House Business Committee will be meeting on Monday 1 October at 11am to initiate parliament proceedings after the summer hiatus.

11 new bills are on parliament’s agenda already.

Among these is a legislative proposal for the law governing NGOs and several proposals for the amendment of authorities and acts governing the financial services of Malta.

Labour Whip, Byron Camilleri, said that the new post of the Commissioner for Standards, taken up by former PN Parliamentary Secretary George Hyzler, will also be discussed.

Two bills that regulate the Education Sector will be brought forward and a bill on sustainable development is the last item on the agenda.

Another item on the agenda is a bill that would amend the act that controls weapons and use of weapons.

Laws and reforms that govern pensions will be brought forward by the Ministry for the Economy, Investment, and Small Businesses.

PN Whip Robert Cutajar told MaltaToday that parliament will start meeting early on Tuesdays, at 4pm instead of 6pm. He also said that time allocated for the opposition will commence on December 1. He did not exclude the possibility of the opposition bringing motions to the table.

The 2019 Budget will be presented on 22 October.
