Moviment Graffitti, along with seven other NGOs, three Local Councils, and hundreds of residents, have proclaimed their wish to take legal action against the Planning Authority's deicision to grant the DB Group project in Pebroke a development permit.

Over 4,500 people, including a large number of residents, objected to the controversial project. The latest controversy surrounding the project came when it was revealed that a private jet was charted to fly a board member to vote on the project, despit the fact that she was absent from meetings more often than not.

Graffitti said in statement that the legal action against the project would include an appeal with the Environment and Planning Review Tribunal (EPRT).

"As there are high costs involved this will only be possible with the public's financial support. Local Councils and NGOs will cover part of the procedural and professional fees. However, this is not enough to cover all expenses," the NGO said.

The NGO said it estimated that up to €15,000 could be required to mount a legal challenge to the project

Through the initiative, it is hoped that €15,000 can be raised, with the NGO saying that all donations will go to a fund that will be used to cover expenses for legal remedies against the project on the ITS site.

"This project will negatively affect people's lives and the environment and was approved in spite of over 4,500 objections," Graffitti said. "We are determined to fight this till the end, and we know that we can win."

The other seven NGOs participating in the campaign are Friends of the Earth, Din l-Art Helwa, Flimkien ghal Ambjent Ahjar, BirdLife Malta, Ramblers Association, Nature Trust (Malta) and Zminijietna — Voice of the Left.
