People have gathered in silence at Bidnija on the site where Daphne Caruana Galizia was murdered one year ago to the day.

Flowers and candles were laid at the edge of the field where Caruana Galizia’s car ended up in a ball of flames after the bomb inside the vehicle was triggered.

The explosion happened at exactly 2.59pm, shortly after the journalist had left her house, a few hundred metres up the road.

The spot where the burning car stopped is marked by two big banners, one with Caruana Galizia’s face and a second with the word ‘Justice’.

People held up posters with the number ‘365’ to recall the one-year anniversary since the assassination.

Some others could be seen with tears streaming down their face. A touching message left with the flowers caught our eyes: ‘Lady, just like we promised you, we have not forgotten you.’

The commemoration in Bidnija will be followed at 6pm by a mass in Valletta and a march calling for truth and justice at 7pm.
