[WATCH] President launches annual Tisjir mill-Qalb recipe book in aid of Community Chest Fund

This year’s edition includes over 80 recipes prepared by secondary school students working under the guidance of experienced chefs

President Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca on Monday launched the 2018 edition of the annual recipe book Tisjir mil-Qalb. Money raised from the sale of the book is donated to the Malta Community Chest Fund.

Addressing an event on the occasion of the book’s launch, Coleiro Preca said that while all recent additions were themed, that of the latest edition went beyond the country’s culinary tradition, but was in fact looking to the future of Malta’s culinary tradition.

The 2018 edition of the book contains a collection of 80 original recipes prepared by secondary school students under the guidance of experienced chefs.

“This was the point of this book, to give our youngsters recognition for their academic endeavours,” Coleiro Preca said.

“I am proud of you because I see you as the present and the leaders of this nation in the future.” 

A total of 12,000 copies were printed, 10,000 in Maltese and another 2,000 in English.

Turning to the Community Chest Fund’s work, Coleiro Preca said that the foundation helped those in need over the course of the year. She explained that the biggest foundation’s biggest expense was helping patients receiving treatment for cancer.

The foundation, she said, also helped patients who needed to receive treatment abroad, people with a disability and others in need of help.

Coleiro Preca said that through the money collected by the foundation it was able to help many people each year.

She said the book was not only serve a showcase of Maltese youths’ capabilities, but it would also show their dedication to solidarity and the generosity between. “I am very proud of you.”
