Three houses were evacuated on Monday morning after a Liquigas bowser began to leak with operations still currently underway to flare out the contents of the bowser.  

The incident took place at Santa Maria Estate - the public is being urged to avoid the area of ​​Santa Maria Estate, particularly Triq Ghajn Zejtuna and Triq il-Qasab for their own protection.

The Department of Civil Protection said workers used different techniques to transfer the gas from one bowser to another but failed.

To ensure the safety of the public, three houses have been evacuated.

Senior officers, including the director, deputy director, operations managers, station officers and 20 fire-fighters make up part of the operation.

Five fire engines and 90,000 litres of water have been used to far.

The police and private water contractors were on site for assistance.
