The performance of the tourism sector on Reporter
The performance of the tourism sector in Malta and Gozo will be discussed on Reporter, broadcast tomorrow evening at 8.45pm on TVM.
Saviour Balzan’s guests this week on Reporter will be Tourism Minister Edward Zammit Lewis, Tourism Shadow Minister Robert Arrigo, and tourism consultant George Micallef.
Income from tourism is estimated to contribute to around 29% of Malta’s GDP. Moreover, the last few months have seen a continuous and substantial rise in the number of tourists visiting Malta. Around 220,000 tourists are expected to visit Malta this August.
Balzan asks: can Malta take in any more tourists? How can we attract tourists of a higher quality? What specific tourism niches should we focus on? Is there any truth to the rumours that the national airline Air Malta could be privatised? Why have so many people resigned from Air Malta recently? What are the prospects for tourism in Gozo?
The programme will also look at the cruise liner sector, the economic income of which has increased by over 70% throughout the first quarter of this year.
Reporter is produced and presented by Saviour Balzan assisted by Frederick Attard.
