Afghan forces foil insurgents’ plan to attack Kabul
Plans to attack Kabul with weapons and explosives have been foiled by Afghan forces that kill the seven insurgents involved.
Seven insurgents attempting to attack Kabul using guns have been killed by Afghan forces just outside the capital.
The insurgents were discovered to be collecting mass amounts of weapons at a compound by intelligence agents who ambushed the insurgents as the returned to the site to prepare for the attack.
Officials said that a gun battle broke out while five insurgents blew themselves up with bombs and the remaining men were shot dead by the police at dawn.
Three cars filled with explosives and ammunition, rocket launchers and machine guns were discovered in the compound and the intelligence agency believe that insurgents were planning to attack three parts of Kabul.
The attack is thought to have been planned for a neighbourhood near the parliament building and other areas found close to embassies and major businesses.
Officials said that no civilians or Afghan forces were killed in the battle which is thought to have been staged by Taliban spokesman Zabiullah Mujahid as propaganda.
