10 killed in Iranian pipeline blast
Iranian news agency has reported that up to 10 Iranian workers died today in hospital after being badly burnt in an explosion in a gas pipeline.
The pipeline transporting gas from the Khangiran refinery in Sarakhs to the city of Mashhadin Iranexploded yesterday when it was accidentally struck by an excavating machine.
“About nine to 10 people were killed in the Sarakhs pipeline blast,” director of Iran Gas Engineering and Development Company said.
Iran’s state television reported that 50 people were also injured.
The explosion set off a fire covering two square kilometres, but it was brought under control according to news agencies.
Iranis the world's fourth-largest oil producer and also sits on the world's second largest natural gas reserves.
