Australian father gets life sentence after killing his three sons
An Australian man was sentenced to life in prison for murdering his three young sons after driving his car into a reservoir and leaving them to die.
Robert Farquharson, the father, had denied deliberately killing the boys, aged two, seven and 10, in 2005 on Father’s Day. The man had claimed that he lost control of the car after blacking out during a coughing fit.
Farquharson was returning home from a Father’s Day visit with his boys when he drove into the reservoir in a southern state of Victoria. He managed to swim to the surface but the children who were trapped by their seatbelts drowned.
Their mother had claimed that no sentence would ever be enough.
“I have a life sentence, so should he,” she said.
Farquharson will not be eligible for parole for 33 years. He is expected to appeal.
