Free webinar on growing cannabis for medical use

The webinar, called ‘Bud Basics: Growing Cannabis for Medical Use’, will be delivered on Tuesday, September 14th, at 6pm

Idea Academy organised a free webinar, delivered by a top expert from the prestigious McGill University in Canada, that shed light on growing cannabis for medical use.

In 2018, Malta enacted the Production of Cannabis for Medicinal and Research Purposes Act, legalising the production of cannabis for medicinal and research purposes for the first time.

Cannabis sativa has been a crop plant, produced and utilised by humanity, for up to 8000 years. There are two basic production types, often referred to as “cannabis” and hemp. The former is high in THC levels and is generally associated with recreational use. Hemp has two main uses: fibres suitable for manufacture of ropes and textiles and CBD types for medical use.

During the last 100 or so years, our understanding of plants, and biology in general, has expanded enormously. During most of that time, Cannabis sativa was classified as an illegal drug and researched little or not at all. However, legalisation of medical cannabis is now expanding rapidly.

During this webinar, presented by Dr. Donald L. Smith of McGill University in Montreal Canada, and developed by Dr. Smith and his PhD student/postdoctoral fellow Dr. Rachel Backer, the current legal status of the crop will be considered, as will current understandings of the genetics and production practices of the crop. Challenges and knowledge gaps related to the crop are also addressed.

This webinar is ideal for anyone who is interested in understanding cannabis with a view to production and considerations regarding conditions leading to plants with desired properties, including cannabinoid levels.

The webinar, called ‘Bud Basics: Growing Cannabis for Medical Use’, will be delivered on Tuesday, September 14th, at 6pm.
