Naudi leads team to victory

On Saturday the forty over Winter league continued between Melita Betfair C.C and Krishna C.C.

The Melita team batted first with Thomas Rusher and Adam Caruana opening the batting. The two juniors were bowled by the opposing teams Juniors Stuart Clarke and Daniel Galea, Galea managed to take another wicket that of Andrew Mitchell.

Sumair Khan made six runs and the Melita team were in deep trouble. Dave Borg  and Prasad Vajindrap brought back respect to their teams scorecard. Borg made nineteen runs including three fours. Prasad went on make forty four runs which included two fours and a six. Once these two were out the Melita team slipped up again losing Dave Mansfield (six runs) and Chris Naudi for nought. Again the Melita team found savours in Andy Naudi and Justin Brooke.

Naudi top scored with fifty nine runs including two fours and a six. Brooke made thirty three runs. The Melita team made 206 runs (including extras) from their forty overs. For the Krishna team Nowell Khosla and Kevin Krishna also took two wickets each while Chris Riordan also took a wicket.

The Krishna team did not get the start they wanted losing Javed Shah in the second over of the innings. Sam Aquilina went in and made twelve runs and played the shot of the day when he hit one of the biggest sixes over mid on, which has been seen at the Marsa ground. Sunny Krishna now joined Nowell Khosla who had been playing some grand shots. They both were keeping the runs ticking over and the Melita team were again in trouble.

Andy Naudi  bowling spin finally had Khosla playing a ball straight back at him and Naudi accepterd the simple catch. Khosla made fifty six runs which included six fours and six. The Melita team were still not out of the woods. Robert Krishna batted well enough for fifteen runs which included a first ball boundary.

The game changed five overs later when Sunny Krishna was caught well by Chris Naudi when he was on thirty eight, the very next ball Ronnie Sacco was brilliantly caught by Sumair Khan. From that point on the Melita team took charge and did not let the game slip. They managed to bowl out the Krishna team for 187 runs. Andy Naudi ended with four wickets, Mike Caruana took two while Adam Caruana, Thomas Rusher, Sarfraz Ali and Dave Borg all took a wicket each. The Melita team have a 2 to one lead in the series with a game remaining.

Next Saturday the 20 over Winter League continues with Marsa C.C playing Krishna C.C.  In the morning The Sunoco  Cricket academy/ nursery will be from 9:00 till 10:30am.
