Naudi hits a century

Over the past week the Marsa C.C team had unusual events.

They were to play HMS Illustrious and then Redditch Allstars C.C in two game series each, as it turned out both teams cancelled a game each.

On the Thursday the HMS Illustrious batted first in the twenty over encounter. They only made a mere eighty eight runs with J.Strachan top scoring with twenty five runs. Extras was next highest score with twenty two and only Tempro made it into double figures with fourteen runs. For the Marsa team Kevin Krishna, Malcolm Crabbe, Dave Borg and Haroon Majeed all took two wickets each while Adam Krishna, Wasem Abbas and Tony Slater took a wicket each.

The Marsa team thought they had the game in the bag until they faced the whirlwind bowler George who captured four wickets for twelve runs from four overs. S.Rehman did well in taking three Marsa wickets. John Grima was the only highlight in the Marsa batting line up, opening the batting and lasting till the eighteenth over as well as top scoring with twenty nine runs. The HMS Illustrious win the game by eleven runs. The Illustrious has played the Marsa team on two other occasions, twice in 1995 when the Marsa team won the two games played and three times in 1996 where the Marsa team won the series two to one.

On Saturday the Marsa team batted first against the Allstars. The Marsa team were entertained by a fantastic innings by Andy Naudi who scored a century , which included ten fours and two sixes. A fine inning indeed. This was only the third century against a touring side this year, the other two coming from the blades of Dave Borg and Ronnie Sacco. John Grima continued his fine form by making thirty three not out. The Marsa team totalled 204 runs from their thirty five overs. Raza, Ibrahim, Iftab and Danish all took a wicket for the visitors.
In reply the Allstars fell apart and managed to total eighty runs all out. Raza was the highest scorer with twenty three runs. For Marsa Matthew Gillard and Haroon Majeed took two wickets apiece, while four more bowlers took a wicket each. The Marsa team win the game.
Next Saturday the Malta Cricket Association Winter League commences with Krishna C.C playing Melita Betfair C.C starting at 10:30am.
