Manchester City land Paris Saint-Germain as Barcelona are paired with Atletico Madrid in last eight

Manchester City must overcome Paris Saint-Germain to reach the Champions League semi-finals after Friday's quarter-final draw in Nyon pitted them against the French champions.

Manuel Pellegrini's side have been handed a tough task in their first appearance at the quarter-final stage against the team who ousted Chelsea in the last 16.

However, the Premier League's sole representative will be pleased to have avoided holders Barcelona, who face Liga rivals Atletico Madrid, their closest challengers for the Spanish league title.

Atletico lost the 2014 Champions League final 4-1 to Real Madrid after extra-time, but overcame Barca in the last eight on their way to reaching that final.

PSG have already secured the French Ligue 1 title in March with eight games to spare. They have lost only one match in France collecting 75 points from 30 fixtures. Their most notable success in Europe remains lifting the old Cup Winners' Cup 20 years ago.

Bayern trailed 2-0 at home, but recovered to level at 2-2 on the night with Thomas Muller scoring in stoppage time to haul the Germans to 4-4 on aggregate. They then scored twice in extra-time to sink the Italian champions, who had lost last year's final 3-1 to Barca.

Bayern's last success in the tournament came in the 2013 final when they downed Borussia Dortmund 2-1 at Wembley.

Barcelona are 6-4 favourites to lift the trophy, boosted by their 5-1 aggregate win over Arsenal in the last 16.
