Get ready for the biggest weekend of sport ever

Are you a sports super fan? This weekend is the ultimate weekend for sports lovers, so, to make sure you don’t miss out…

This is the one we’ve all been waiting for. The best weekend of sport ever. The 9-10 July is delivering the ultimate sporting line-up, so now’s the time to get the fridge stocked up, lock the doors and strap yourself in for a weekend to remember.

The 9 July will see the Wimbledon Ladies’ Singles final and US Women’s Open take place, with Jedrzejczyk v Gadelha battling it out at UFC 200 later in the evening. Sunday 10th is when things really get going with the British Grand Prix and Wimbledon Men’s Singles final taking place, before the Euro 2016 final kicks off at 9pm.

According to an independent poll by new to the scene bookies LeoVegas.com, two-thirds (66%) of the UK will be watching sports this weekend, and unsurprisingly, 75% of Scots will be tuning in to see if Murray can deliver another nail biting final at Wimbledon this Sunday.

60% of those surveyed will be watching both the Wimbledon and Euro finals but, if it came down to it and they had to choose between the two, 43% admitted they would watch the final of the Euros and just 31% would tune in to Wimbledon.

LeoVegas also surveyed 1,000 amateur athletes to find out what their pet peeves are when it comes to good sporting etiquette. Shockingly, 55% admitted they don’t think verbally abusing another player in a racist, homophobic or sexist way makes them a ‘bad sport’ and a further 59% think it’s okay to deliberately push another player.

The research also revealed what people do consider to be unsportsmanlike. The most hated acts are:

Diving or faking an injury (52%); Match fixing (48%); Risking injury to another player by going in for a rough tackle (47%); Skipping a section of a course to win a race (46%); Celebrating when an opponent is injured (45%).

When it comes to competitiveness, 33% of men think it’s one of the most important aspects of sport, compared to just 18% of women. However, women are more likely to use underhand tactics as 19% admit they would do anything it takes to win, which should make for interesting watching this Saturday.

We caught up with Robbie Decker, a 22-year-old sports super fan from Leeds who will be tuning in to all of the action this weekend.

He said: “I’ve been challenged by LeoVegas to follow their guide and fit in as much sport as possible in 48 hours.

“I’ll be stocking up on supplies on Friday night and getting my bets on and then plan on staying put for the rest of the weekend. I’m most looking forward to the tennis – half of my family are from above the boarder so I’m a Murray fan through and through. I’d love to see him repeat his 2013 heroics this year.

“It’s a relief that all of this is happening over the weekend as I have been known to call in sick to work to avoid missing important matches. I once even faked a family emergency midway through a shift to watch Leeds United beat Bristol Rovers 2-1 on the final day of the season.”

Shenaly Amin, UK Country Manager at LeoVegas, said: “We opened our sportsbook back in May so it’s great timing that the ultimate sporting weekend has fallen so close to our launch. Robbie is a huge sports fan, so we challenged him to fit in as much sport as possible over the weekend – a challenge he was more than happy to take on. We created the guide to make sure Robbie didn’t miss out on any of the highlights and hope that it comes in handy for everyone else too.”

Bride-to-be Charlotte Glenton is tying the knot this Sunday and has already had complaints from guests for her ‘inconvenient’ timing. Charlotte said: “I’ve been planning my wedding to Danny for two years and now I’m getting complaints left right and centre for picking the wrong weekend! The groomsmen will be watching on their mobiles and I’m sure Danny will try to sneak off too. There’s even been talk of putting up screens at the reception but that’s just one step too far!”
