Updated | 'No decision yet' on site for motorsports track

Five submissions have been made in reply to an international expression of interest launched by the government last September, the national broadcaster reports.

According to TVM, the motorsports track will not be longer than 3km.

The EOI for the design, construction and operation of a motor recreation and education park leaves it up to investors to come up with their own location choice.

The EOI seeks the development of racing tracks for cars, bikes, go karts, mini motos and scooters, meeting international standards. The complex must attract international events on a regular basis. The park’s administration, in agreement with the government, must allow slots to be used by local enthusiasts for their training.

The complex must provide an educational facility on road safety, parking facilities, spectators’ stands, a media area and must make use of renewable energy.

“Other guidelines which could form part of the projects” include a transport museum, a hotel, administration offices and a facility for repair and maintenances.

In a statement, the parliamentary secretariat for sports said that the government was not in a position to announce the sites being proposed as the submissions have not yet been opened and evaluated.

It said that an evaluation committee will be set up to evaluate the submissions, after which a decision will be taken whether to issue a request for proposals or not. Any potential RFP will only be open for qualifying proposals.
