Malta will host its first ever international BMX competition between 5 and 8 December. The event will take place in the Indoor Skate Park in Pembroke that was officially opened in March.

Six professional BMX racers will compete against each other in this event, coordinator Carl Naja said. Around 150 Maltese BMX racers and skateboarders will race in separate competitions.

“It’s an honour that we’re getting to organise an international event just over a year since we were given new facilities,” BMX Association President John Zammit said, adding that works to build a racing course for 4-5 year-olds next to the facilities are at an advanced stage.

“It is important for local sport associations to attract more foreign athletes to Malta,” sport parliamentary secretary Chris Agius said. “This will not only help sport tourism but enhance the experience of Maltese athletes.”
