Malta to take part in European Company Sports Games

Malta competing in European Company Sports Games with 43 strong contingent

Malta will be sending 43 players to participate in the European Company Sports Games to be held in Riccione between the third and sixth June.

“The participation of workers in sports can continue to help us build a healthier society,” said Parliamentary Secretary for Youth and Sport Chris Agius at a press conference earlier today. Addressing journalists, Agius also gave some final information before the Malta Employees Sport Association (MESA) will represent the country with its 43 person contingent.

Agius wished the participants well and hinted at the two challenges the MESA has had to face so far; increasing the practiced sports among workers and removing financial burdens from the association.

MESA president Mark Marlow also spoke at the event and said that it was the first time that Malta was taking part with such a large contingent. He reminded that Malta’s participation in the games was a result of the MESA’s decision to join the European Federation for Company Sport (EFCS).

Mario Saliba, secretary of the association and team leader then provided further details of the event, saying that the coming 20th edition of the games was expected to attract some 8,000 athletes and that Malta would be competing in four different sports; football with two teams, badminton, bowling and darts.

“The Maltese contingent is made up of; Edmond Abela, Samuel Cali, Stephen Ferrante, Tiziana Mifsud, Fiorelli Marie Sadowski, Stefan Salomone u Kenneth Vella for Badminton; Charles Galea, Charles Farrugia, Steve Cassar, Aaron Belli, Alfred Pulis u Mario Ellul for Bowling; Emanuel Ebejer, Joseph Mangion, Paul Sammut, Albert Scerri, u Gordon Stanmore; and
