Twenty-four teams from twenty-three countries will be participating in this world cup. China will be having two teams as the host country. The best two players from each country will take part. The only exception is the English team since world’s number 1 Marl Selby had to retire due to a broken finger which will keep him out for some weeks. He was replaced by Barry Hawkins.

China is among the favourites to lift the trophy through the team formed by Ding Junhui and Liang Wenbo. England and Scotland are also being listed as favourites.

The twenty-four teams were divided into four groups composed of six teams each. They will play on a round-robin procedure. The first two placed teams in each group will go through to the quarter finals.

In the groups phase, five frames per game will be played, forty singles and one double in which a point will be awarded for each frame won. From the quarter finals onwords, the games will be decided upon the best out of seven frames.

The Maltese team will be playing in group C together with England, Australia, Switzerland, Pakistan and Iran. The first commitment for the Maltese team will be next Monday at around 8.30 p.m. (Chinese time)
