World’s largest online poker brand Stars opens Malta office

Stars Group, with 70% of the global market in poker gaming, has set up shop in St Julian’s

Prime Minister Joseph Muscat has inaugurated the new office of Stars Group Inc., the world’s largest online gaming brand.

The company has relocated its Malta office to a new location so as to accommodate its growing presence on the island. The Stars Group’s Malta workforce started out with a handful of employees and has grown to over 300 employees. The staff, who come from more than 30 countries, work across a variety of departments servicing the brand.

The i-gaming industry accounts for 12% of Malta’s gross domestic product. The company currently holds 70% of the global market on poker gaming.

“The Stars Group’s continued growth is a great sign that we are delivering on our goal to become the world’s favourite igaming destination,” said Rafi Ashkenazi, CEO of the company. “Malta provided a warm welcome to us in 2012 and we’re proud to renew our commitment.”

Speaking at the event, Muscat said that Stars’ Groups success is evidence of Malta’s commitment to provide a space for incoming industries to grow: “The success of the company left a positive effect on the country, creating a cosmopolitan melting pot.”

Muscat reaffirmed his goals to make Malta the undisputed European destination for gaming companies: “We will continue to make Malta safe for consumers while remaining agile to meet demands,” he said. “We also have to ensure that our education continues to meet the industry’s demands.”
