Handball: All set for the most prestigous handball tournament ever held in Malta

Malta will host one of the European Handball qualifying groups starting this Friday.

The Maltese National Team will face Georgia, Azerbaijan and Cyprus in this tournament.

The winner of this group will qualify for the second round of the competition which will resume until the European champion will be declared.

This is one of the most prestigious competitions ever to be organized in Malta since 1995, the year when the Maltese Handball Association was founded.

Malta Handball Association president Louis Borg thanked Sport Malta for their continuous help towards the same association and by giving them the opportunity to play their matches at the Cottonera Sports Complex.

Borg noted that this tournament will give plenty of experience to our Maltese players as they will cross swords against some of the top European handball players.

Orlando Bonnici, the chief organizer of this tournament, said that this event could be the catalyst towards the growing popularity of this sport. He explained that all the teams participating in this tournament will field the best players with the aim to progress even further in this competition.

The MHA explained that the surface being used at the Cottonera Sports Complex was donated by the European Handball Assocation and after these matches, it will be fixed in another venue that the association was granted in Santa Venera.

The Maltese national team, under the guidance of Joseph Tanti, will kick off their commitments next Friday as they face George at 7.30pm.

The entrance for these matches played at the Cottonera Sports Complex will be free of charge.

Andrew Decelis, MHA Vice-president was also present for this press conference.
