Arrigo explodes rumours of junior minister offer

Nationalist MP Robert Arrigo has dismissed as pure speculation the rumour that Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi offered him a parliamentary secretariat, which he turned down insisting on a ministry instead.
“I couldn’t refuse anything, because there was nothing to refuse,” he said in an interview with MaltaToday Midweek. “I wasn’t offered anything. I didn’t ask for anything, either.”
The PN backbencher admitted to a certain disappointment at being left out of Gonzi’s revamped Cabinet, but denied feeling entitled to the tourism ministry.
“One might have expected a call, all things considered,” he said. “But obviously one also has to also respect the Prime Minister’s prerogative…”
