Spazju Kreattiv launches the new programme for 2026/27

Spazju Kreattiv has launched its 2026/27 programme, presenting a new season of cultural and artistic activity featuring more than 50 events and initiatives, over 70 artists and creatives, and more than 60 partners and collaborators.

The programme was officially launched on Wednesday, 16 September 2026 at Spazju Kreattiv, Malta’s National Centre for Creativity, marking the beginning of a new season spanning the visual arts, performing arts, cinema and multidisciplinary practice.

Building on the momentum generated by Spazju Kreattiv’s 25th anniversary, the 2026/27 programme continues the organisation’s commitment to fostering artistic development, experimentation and collaboration, while enabling audiences to engage with a diverse range of contemporary cultural experiences.

At the heart of the new season are 12 major exhibitions and more than 15 theatre productions, alongside performances, over 300 film screenings, creative initiatives and multidisciplinary projects.

The international dimension of the programme will continue through Spazju Kreattiv’s Artist-in-Residence (AIR) programme. Four AIR projects will bring together artists representing five nationalities and five creative disciplines, encouraging international artistic exchange and bringing different perspectives and practices to Malta.

Throughout the 2026/27 season, Spazju Kreattiv will offer nine theatrical tours of the building, inviting audiences to discover spaces not normally accessible to the public while uncovering the history and stories of St James Cavalier and its place within Malta’s wider historical context.

Supporting artists and new creative work remains an important part of the programme. During the season, Spazju Kreattiv will launch several Open Calls and deliver 16 IKKREA sessions, enabling artists and creative practitioners to develop their practice, exchange ideas and engage with different areas of the cultural and creative sectors. The launch was addressed by the Minister for the Arts, Culture and National Heritage, Malcolm Paul Agius Galea, who said the programme highlights the important contribution of cultural organisations to Malta’s artistic and social landscape.

He emphasised that “culture has the power to shape how a nation understands itself. It preserves our heritage while encouraging innovation, inspires dialogue across communities and creates opportunities for future generations to express themselves with confidence and authenticity. Spazju Kreattiv continues to play a central role in Malta’s cultural landscape, creating a vital meeting place for artists, audiences, educators and cultural organisations.”

Rupert Cefai, Executive Chairman of Fondazzjoni Kreattività, said that the 2026/27 season builds on the organisation’s 25-year journey while continuing to look to the future. Spanning exhibitions, theatre productions, educational collaborations, art-house cinema, artistic residencies, think tanks, festivals, theatrical tours, international projects and other artistic development initiatives, the 2026/27 season reaffirms Spazju Kreattiv as a year-round hub for creativity, cultural exchange and artistic engagement.
