Singer Ema releases new single IMĦABBA

Singer Ema has released her new single IMĦABBA, a personal song looking back at her childhood and at a journey shaped by searching, longing and, ultimately, finding the love she had wished for throughout much of her life.

With music by Philip Vella, lyrics by Emil Calleja Bayliss and production by Sean Vella, IMĦABBA explores the desire for family and a true sense of belonging. The song begins through the eyes of a child who, despite having love around her, was aware that her experience was different from that of other children.

As the song develops, that search becomes an increasingly clear longing: for the love of a family, a mother and a father, as well as the dream of one day being able to build a home and family of her own.

“IMĦABBA is a song that feels very close to me because it reflects emotions and wishes that have been with me since I was very young. It speaks about what I searched for, what I longed for and, most importantly, what I can now say I have found. I hope that everyone who listens to the song can also find a small part of themselves within it,” says Ema.

One of the key elements of IMĦABBA is the progression within its lyrics, moving from searching, to longing, and finally to finding. What begins as an absence and a wish eventually reaches its emotional resolution as Ema sings about the love she has finally found.

IMĦABBA is accompanied by a lyric video which takes the story further visually. The video features illustrations based on real photographs from different moments in Ema’s life, including images from her childhood. Through these drawings, the audience is able to discover another part of the personal journey behind the song.

While IMĦABBA stems from a personal experience, its themes are universal. The desire to feel loved, to belong and to find one’s place can resonate with many people, even when their own stories are very different from Ema’s.
