Low cost airline JET2 will start embarking flights to and from Malta as of next year, Tourism Minister Edward Zammit Lewis announced.

Speaking during the presentation of Blue Flag Awards, Zammit Lewis also announced that Norwegian, the Norwegian airline, would embark on weekly flights to Malta as from July 5.

Praising the announcement as an “important day for Malta’s tourism sector,” Zammit Lewis said the new airlines will give tourists greater flexibility and choice to choose Malta as their destination.

“This announcement is a certificate for Malta’s tourism industry. The new airlines will be of great benefit to the tourism sector,” he said.

JET2.com has a fleet of 52 aircraft and employs more than 3,000 people. It has carried more than 30 million passengers to 65 destinations.
