Air Malta to open second route to Algeria

Malta’s national airline announces plans to open second route to Algeria

Air Malta, Malta’s National Airline, has announced that it is planning to open up a new route to Oran, Algeria’s second largest city. The flight is expected to operate every Monday and Thursday from the 20th of July until the 31st of August.

Commenting on these new services Joseph Galea, Deputy chief commercial officer said,

“This is more good news both for Malta and for Algeria. We started flying to Algeria’s capital, Algiers, in June 2013 and we are now looking forward to starting operations to Oran following the positive response we received. The city is a major port and it is the commercial, industrial, and educational centre of western Algeria.”

“This service will complement the twice weekly flights to Algiers that will increase to three weekly flights during the peak summer months just after Ramadan. Flights to Algiers this summer will operate every Monday, Thursday and Sunday,” Galea added.

Air Malta said that its flights to both Algiers and Oran would offer much needed connectivity between the two countries and mainland Europe through Malta.

“Oran is the commercial, industrial, and educational centre of western Algeria. It is a major port city on the north-western Mediterranean coast, located 432 kilometres (268 miles) from the capital Algiers. The city has a metropolitan population area of approximately 1,500,000, making it the second largest city in Algeria.”

Air Malta announced that it had appointed Soleil Voyages as its General Sales Agents for Algeria on the 1st of December 2014.

“Soleil Voyages are backed up by a network of local travel agents that will be selling Air Malta and Malta across the whole country.”
