Tourism minister Edward Zammit Lewis launched a foundation – Conventions Malta - to promote Malta as a destination for conferences and conventions.

The launch took place in Frankfurt, Germany, during this year’s edition of the IMEX trade show – a leading annual trade show for meeting, conferences and events.

Zammit Lewis told an audience of tourism trade professionals and journalists that Conventions Malta will offer free and unbiased information as well as assistance to all event organisers who are considering the Maltese Islands as a destination.

MTA chief executive Paul Bugeja said that Conventions Malta will render the country better equipped to attract conference travellers.

“This will be of great benefit to the local tourism industry as well as the country as a whole, particularly due to the higher level of expenditure by such tourists as well as their visiting in the quieter shoulder months,” he said. “This venture provides a platform from which all participating stakeholders can cooperate, share information and knowhow, and offer the best service or product possible

This international launch comes a few weeks after the Conventions Malta brand was launched locally at a venue in Valletta.

During this year’s IMEX, Malta was well represented through the Malta Tourism Authority, Air Malta and 18 other co-exhibitors representing destination management companies, hotels and conference venues.
