World First as Arabian Adventures receives CEMARS Certification

Arabian Adventures, a division of the Emirates Group and the region’s leading Destination Management Company (DMC), has been awarded the internationally recognised Certified Emissions Measurement And Reduction Scheme (CEMARS) certification.

Over the past 20 years, Arabian Adventures has been at the forefront of developing the tourism industry in the United Arab Emirates. The company is now the first DMC in the world to achieve CEMARS certification. The CEMARS certification scheme is an integral brand of the internationally recognised carboNZero programme, managed by Landcare Research NZ - one of the world’s leading organisations in the assessment of carbon footprints and forest sinks. “This accreditation demonstrates Arabian Adventures’ commitment to help create a more environmentally sustainable UAE tourism industry. Customers want to make confident environmental purchasing decisions and the CEMARS certification meets that need,” said Peter Payet, Senior Vice President, Arabian Adventures. As part of the company’s comprehensive emissions management and reduction plan, key initiatives include using the corporate environmental policy to support vehicle purchases – to ensure the most modern, low emissions vehicles are used in the fleet. The emissions reduction plan also encompasses an investigation into the use of solar photovoltaic panels at several desert camps used by the company, in order to maximise renewable energy use and reduce emissions from traditional sources. Emirates, the Dubai-based international airline operates flights on a daily schedule from Malta to Dubai via Larnaca, Cyprus.
