Man pleads guilty to attempted Birkirkara shop robbery

Man admits to threatening shop employee with knife during robbery attempt

A man from Birkirkara has pleaded guilty to attempted robbery on a shop in Birkirkara last month.

The incident occurred on 30 January at around 10am, when a man entered a shop on Triq il-Wied, Birkirkara and threatened an employee with a knife.

The employee managed to defend himself and the man fled the scene empty-handed.

Following investigations, police identified and arrested the suspect on Thursday.

The man was brought under arrest before Magistrate Ingrid Bianco earlier on Tuesday, where he was charged with attempted theft and holding a person against their will, among other charges.

He pleaded guilty to the accusations with sentencing scheduled for 20 February.​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​
