Parent assaults head at Kalkara primary school
A parent entered the Kalkara primary school and assaulted the head in an incident that occured at 7:30am • Police had to be called in
A parent assaulted a staff member at the Kalkara primary school on Monday morning, the police have confirmed.
Sources close to the school told MaltaToday it was the school's head teacher who was attacked. The police Rapid Intervention Unit had to be called in.
The incident took place on school premises at around 7:30am amd the head teacher was taken to a health centre, where slight injuries were certified.
Meanwhile, the Malta Union of Teachers condemned the aggression, which it said was directed towards the school head and deputy head of school. The union called on the authorities to support educators in schools.
"According to initial information, the unwarranted escalation from the parent was unrelated to schooling," the union said, pointing out that this strengthens the argument that schools are having to deal with situations that go beyond schooling and which require the support of services outside school and in the respective families.
The MUT communicated with the head of school and offered its support. It also communicated with the Education Ministry for the required assistance to be provided.
