Man charged with attempted murder after Marsa stabbing

A 24-year-old Yemeni man has been charged with the attempted murder of another man following a stabbing in Marsa that left the victim seriously injured.

Nashwaan Hassen pleaded not guilty before Magistrate Nadia-Helena Vella.

According to the prosecution, the victim had allowed Hassen to stay overnight at his apartment. The following morning, he allegedly discovered that Hassen had left and that cash and other belongings were missing.

The victim later contacted Hassen, and the two arranged to meet in Marsa in an attempt to recover the stolen items and determine who might have taken them.

At one point, the victim allegedly suggested reporting the matter to the police. It was then that the accused allegedly stabbed him with a knife.

Police officers who arrived at the scene found the victim lying on the ground with serious abdominal injuries. He was reportedly in danger of losing his life.

Investigators later identified the accused through CCTV footage before arresting him in Ħamrun.

Bail was not requested for the accused, who resides at Dar Papa Franġisku.
