Man suffers serious injuries after car hits tree and catches fire in Tarxien

A man has suffered serious injuries after his car crashed into a tree and burst into flames in Tarxien.

The incident happened at around 12.30am in Triq Tal-Brarrani on Sunday morning.

The man, a 30-year-old resident of Birżebbuġa, was driving a Toyota Auris when he lost control and struck a tree. 

Shortly after the impact, the vehicle caught fire.

Bystanders who happened to be passing pulled the driver out of the car before the flames took hold.

Civil Protection Department officers and a medical team treated the man at the scene before he was taken to Mater Dei Hospital by ambulance. 

He was certified with serious injuries.

Police said investigations are ongoing.
