A 25-year-old man from Ħamrun has been arrested in connection with alleged drug trafficking after police found suspected cocaine, MDMA and cannabis in his car during a routine traffic operation in Birżebbuġa.

Police said the arrest followed a stop carried out on Għar Dalam Road at around 10:30pm.

During routine patrols, officers stopped a Toyota Yaris, where the driver behaved suspiciously when asked to present his driving documents.

A search was then carried out on the vehicle, where around 30 bags of a substance suspected of being cocaine, around 30 pills of a substance suspected of being MDMA, and a separate bag of a substance suspected of being cannabis were found.

Police said the circumstances in which the drugs were found indicated they were not for personal use.

Items associated with drug trafficking, as well as a considerable amount of cash, were also found in the car.

The man is being held at the Police Lock-Up in Floriana and is expected to appear in court in the coming days.

Police investigations are ongoing.
