Four charged over string of violent robberies
Two 18-year-olds, a 30-year-old and 35-year-old charged over series of armed robberies in Bormla
Four people were on Thursday charged over a series of armed robberies in Bormla.
Three of the accused are facing a string of severe charges, including theft aggravated by violence as well as allegedly threatening and injuring multiple victims. The fourth accused was charged with hiding the stolen goods.
The accused, 18-year-old Ronaldinho Zammit Attard, 30-year-old Nurton Borg, 35-year-old Mariana Doris Attard and 18-year-old Naomi Borg Grech appeared in front of the court on Thursday.
The prosecution described a series of theft-related incidents taking place in May 2026, where Ronaldinho Zammit Attard, Nurton Borg and Mariana Doris Attard had allegedly robbed, threatened and injured a number of victims. Naomi Borg Grech was identified as a fourth person who was found holding the stolen items.
Following an incident on 18 May, the four accused were identified and eventually arrested.
Ronaldinho Zammit Attard, Nurton Borg, and Mariana Doris Attard all pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against them. The three did not make requests for bail.
Naomi Borg Grech pleaded guilty to her involvement.
The court heard Naomi Borg Grech’s involvement cantered strictly around the possession of the stolen property and was not involved with the series of thefts themselves.
The prosecution verified she was brought to court because she was found holding the victims' stolen mobile phones, which carried a combined total value of €200.
Defence lawyers emphasised Borg Grech has a completely clean criminal record and did not participate directly in the violent armed robberies. The defence requested a probation order, arguing it would be sufficient to help the young woman get her life back on track.
The prosecution agreed with the defence’s assessment, noting that Borg Grech clearly requires professional guidance and support rather than punishment.
While she awaits formal sentencing, she was granted bail to reside with her mother under strict conditions. She was ordered to pay a €100 deposit, backed by a €5,000 personal guarantee.
The court explicitly warned her that she must have absolutely no contact with the other three co-offenders.
To ensure the safety of those targeted in the robberies, the court issued a protection order against all the accused from making any form of contact with the victims.
This court was presided over by Magistrate Gabriella Vella.
Lawyers Franco Debono, Adreana Zammit, Matthew Xuereb, and Noel Bezzina appeared for the accused.
