Man charged with breaking into car while on bail
A 32-year-old man is remanded in custody after being charged with breaking into a vehicle and stealing from it while it was parked in Bulebel
A 32-year-old man was remanded in custody on Thursday after being charged with a vehicle break-in and theft, standardising a pattern of behaviour while already facing separate, pending criminal proceedings.
Glen Borg appeared before the duty magistrate facing charges of theft and violating previous bail conditions.
The case came to light after Żejtun district police received a report on 1 June regarding a vehicle that had been broken into while parked in Bulebel. The owner discovered that the car had been broken into, with one of the doors forced open, a window shattered, and several personal belongings stolen from inside.
Investigating officers reviewed CCTV footage from the area, which captured a male suspect wearing a distinctive red shirt and white trousers. The court heard that the accused was already under a court order to sign a bail book for previous offences, a condition he had neglected for quite some time. When police finally contacted him to report to the station and sign, officers noticed he was wearing the exact same clothes captured on the CCTV footage of the break-in.
The prosecution highlighted that Borg was already known to the authorities and had an active, pending criminal case against him at the time of the alleged offence.
The accused pleaded not guilty to all charges. No request for bail was made.
Duty Magistrate Abigail Critien presided over the arraignment.
