Homeless man pleads guilty to vandalising cars while drunk
The prosecution requested that the accused be handed jail time due to the fact that when the crimes were committed, he was knowingly, illegally residing in Malta
A 41-year-old man pleaded guilty to a string of charges including damaging parked cars, disrupting public peace as well, as being homeless in Malta.
On 3 June 2026 the Siġġiewi police station received a number of reports of a man seen shouting at people in Żebbuġ as well as vandalising parked cars, all while drunk.
The police arrived on the scene and found a man that matched the description. The accused was arrested at around 9:35 pm.
The accused told authorities that his name was Stanley but had no form of identification to back this up. He was later identified as 41-year-old Abazie Stanley Ihitegbulem.
Ihitegbulem was immediately taken to Mater Dei hospital following his arrest since he was still under the influence of alcohol.
His arrest was not contested in court.
The accused pleaded guilty to the charges brought against him.
The prosecution requested that the accused be handed jail time due to the fact that when the crimes were committed, he was knowingly, illegally residing in Malta, posing a grave threat for locals. It was also noted that the accused had caused around €320 in damages.
The defence countered this argument saying that him being an illegal immigrant was completely unrelated to the accusations being brought against him. It was further pointed out that up until now, Ihitegbulem had an entirely clean criminal record and also pleaded guilty upon his own admission.
His sentencing has been deferred to a later date.
This court was presided over by Nadia Helena Vella
John Sammut led the prosecution.
Silvan Pulis appeared for the defence.
