19 irregular migrants arrested in police inspections

Police carried out inspections in Ħamrun, Qormi, and St Paul’s Bay between Wednesday night and Thursday morning

Police arrested 19 people found to be living in Malta illegally during inspections in Ħamrun, Qormi, and St Paul’s Bay.

The inspections took place between Wednesday night and Thursday morning.

In Ħamrun and Qormi, police arrested 10 people from Syria, Gambia, Ivory Coast and Niger.

A separate operation in St Paul’s Bay led to the arrest of another nine people from Albania, Syria, Ghana, Bangladesh, Gambia and Mali.

They are being held at a detention centre under the care of the Detention Services Agency while arrangements are made for their repatriation.
