Two people were seriously injured in a series of traffic accidents involving seven vehicles after a Subaru hit a wall and blocked the Coast Road in Naxxar on Sunday morning.

At around 7:15am on Sunday, police were called to the scene after a Subaru Impreza driven by a 41-year-old man crashed into a wall and came to a stop across both lanes. A number of vehicles consequently came to a halt since the lanes were obstructed.

A 36-year-old motorcyclist attempted to avoid the standstill but lost control of his Suzuki motorcycle and crashed into the barriers, sustaining injuries.

At the same time, a five-vehicle chain collision involving an Isuzu van, a Mazda 2, a Toyota Passo, a Toyota Vitz and a Porsche occurred at the same location, leaving the Vitz driver injured.

A medical team assisted the injured parties at the scene before they were taken by ambulance to Mater Dei Hospital, where the motorcyclist and the Vitz driver were certified to have suffered grievous injuries.

The 41-year-old man driving the Subaru Impreza was not injured.

Police investigations are ongoing.
