Police arrest two in suspected drug trafficking case
The suspects were found with suspected drugs with a street value close to €13,000
Police have arrested two people in connection with suspected drug trafficking after recovering around 100 grams of a substance believed to be heroin, with a street value of close to €13,000.
Police said that in recent days, officers had kept a 49-year-old man from Ħal Għaxaq under surveillance, as he was suspected of drug trafficking.
The watch picked up suspicious movements, and he was seen several times in an area around Ħal Farruġ.
During investigations yesterday morning, police stopped him there while he was using a Range Rover. A search of the man turned up a block of suspected heroin, and a search of a nearby wall uncovered two more blocks of the same drug.
Officers then searched the man's home in Ħal Għaxaq and the home of a 29-year-old woman in Ħal Tarxien. From these, they recovered several items linked to drug trafficking, a number of mobile phones and a large sum of cash.
Magistrate Dr Monica Borg Galea was informed of the case and has appointed an inquiry.
The man is set to appear in court this morning at around 10:30am before Magistrate Lara Lanfranco
Police investigations into the case are still under way.
